Absolutely love this spot. Not too hard to get a seat at the bar or a table, they will find a way to accommodate you. We had the lobster roll and scallops one time, and then the fish n' chips and oysters another time. Still so much to try off the menu. A must in Old Pasadena!
November 2023:
Stopped by again before a UCLA football game. Ordered the cioppino again. Unfortunately, this time wasn't as good as two months ago. Didn't get the same richness in the broth 😞. Too bad. It's hard to be consistent.
Tried a dozen oysters too and they tasted fresh. Also enjoyed the fried oysters on top of deviled eggs 😋. Very tasty! Also tried the kale and the dungeness crab 🦀 roll. Both were good.
Too bad about the cioppino. I was looking forward to getting the same delicious cioppino. Keeping the rating the same, but won't be craving the cioppino.
September 2023:
Came here for dinner after the UCLA football game and was extremely hungry. We ended up trying the dungeness crab 🦀 louie and the cioppino. Both were just fantastic 🤩.
The salad had a lot of crab. The salad 🥗 was assembled with a lot of care. Delicious deviled eggs were a nice surprise. Asparagus, thinly shaved carrots, lettuce, tomatoes. So much goodness in the salad. The dressing was really tasty 😋. Would definitely order this again.
The cioppino was served with four chunks of toasted brioche 😋. Lots of seafood in the bowl. Shrimp, clams, mussels, salmon, cod. The broth was rich and delicious. Would definitely order this dish again!
Other things I wanted to eat: raw seafood platter, branzino, fried oysters on deviled eggs, lobster roll, crab roll, fish and chips, sushi hand roll.
Will definitely be back again. Perhaps in 3 weeks at the next UCLA football game!
This is day two of our food vacation stop . It was a little hard to find but once inside it's beautiful. Small but intimate. The oysters are delicious! wow so fresh! The lobster rolls are to die for ! The French fries are super amazing! So meaty Definitely coming back again A+
Terrific seafood and good service. My branzino with asparagus was perfectly cooked. The skin was lightly fried and crispy with no fishy taste whatsoever--always my fear since being served fish with skin-on at other places that tasted like catfood. We bought a basket of fries for the table that were about the best I've ever had--crispy on the outside and very creamy within. My friends had oysters from the raw bar and said all the varieties they selected were equally good. They also ordered beautifully executed fish tacos. I rated this restaurant a 5 based on quality of food and service but with the caveat that the old-diner ambience isn't equally outstanding--stained and battle-scared concrete floors, extremely noisy to the point where you can barely carry on a conversation, booths really too small for more than two people. But if these kinds of drawbacks don't bother you, you won't be disappointed. Just bliss out on the food. We did.
This is a great place if you’re looking for seafood but are feeling undecided about what type of cuisine you’d like. Fishwives has sushi, ceviche, fish and chips, a raw bar…the list goes on. I’ve come back here a few times because it is so reliably tasty.
I do recommend making a reservation if you are going during peak dinner hours. It was nearly empty when I got there, but it completely filled up, as it isn’t a huge place.
My only criticism is that it does have a strong fish smell that will stay on your clothes after you leave, so it’s maybe not the best choice as a first stop on a night out.
I happened to be in the area and popped in for lunch and it was great. My branzino was cooked perfectly and the salad dressing was tasty. I saw a couple of other menu items I definitely want to try.
Came here for a weekday lunch. I made a reservation on Yelp but actually you won't need reservations on weekdays. The restaurant is just 40% occupied. We ordered 3 items this time: 1. Clam Chowder, 2. Seafood Basket, and 3. Lobster Rolls. You must try this top three items if you've never tried them yet! The clam chowder is so creamy and full of seafood flavor. Seafood Basket is really fresh and we can taste all the sweet natural aroma of the clams mussels and lobster. They are very generous on my lobster roll. It is seasonal price. Today mine was $36. Not bad for the price. The fries are thick and fresh. Service was awesome. The server came several times to change the bowl where we put the shells. Atmosphere is comfortable but kind of too simple! Oh forgot to mention about parking. You can either park on the street or a nearby parking structure. They do not validate parking ticket. Overall this is a cute hidden gem you must give it a try! Good luck!
Michelle was our server; she was top notch!
We were celebrating my daughter’s 21st birthday. She carded her, then brought her a birthday ice cream at the end of dinner.
Thank you Michelle for making it a memorable night!
